I can understand the popularity of other options, but IBM is still by far the best. They have an eye for detail plus know what to budle up the machine with. R31 is a great example - it has all you can possible need in a light and compact design. I wish IBM would also get into a regular consumer market sale model like others but then it is going to loose it's exclusive edge

Just because a laptop carries the IBM name doesn?t mean it has to be priced out of your range. The ThinkPad R31 is priced a few hundred dollars more than entry-level laptops from other vendors, many of which have broken the $1,000 price point. However, the R31 still delivers many laptop amenities for its relatively low price. As with all ThinkPad R Series models, the R31 is designed to offer a very useable suite of features in a laptop that?s light enough to travel well. At just under six pounds, the R31 is easy to take with you, whether from class to class or on a business trip. The 13.3-inch LCD screen provides a display that won?t cause eyestrain, even when you're working with the word processing or spreadsheet software.
