The HP TouchSmart is a cutting edge piece of technology. It combines the home PC with start-of-the-art, professional standard, touchscreen functionality. Straight out of the box, we just fell in love with the TouchSmart; it is such a stunning bit of kit! The glossy, piano black surface and metal bezel make the TouchSmart a very attractive addition to any home study or even living room. The build quality of the TouchSmart is superb, as you would expect from any HP product. You can either go for the TouchSmart IQ500 series for a 22" screen, or the TouchSmart IQ800 series for the, substantial 25.5" screen. Both models of TouchSmart are full 1080p HD screens, which we found to have really good contrast and colour strength. The high gloss of the screen could make reflection a bit of an issue in very bright sunlight, but in our opinion, the glossy screen was extremely sharp and a pleasure to use. The TouchSmart peripherals (keyboard and mouse) are entirely wireless. Combine this wirelss technology with the fact that the TouchSmart is an 'all-in-one' pc (there is no 'tower' to deal with with; all the hardware is in the monitor unit), and that the TouchSmart touch-screen is wall-mountable and you'll find that you have so much more desk space, you won't know what to do with it all! We found the TouchSmart keyboard to be a pretty slick bit of hardware too, with lovely slimline design and tight, responsive keys. The TouchSmart is spec'ed to appeal to the home user, and serves this purpose extremely well. With 4GB of RAM and at least 320GB of hard drive you'd be doing hard pressed to push this PC to it's limits. Packing up to a 2.10GHz Intel® Core 2 Duo T8100 processor you won't have any problems running multiple apps at the same time on the TouchSmart, which is good, considering the tastey looking touchscreen apps. Which, brings us nicely onto the touchscreen; the main cutting edge feature of the HP TouchSmart PC. We were a little sceptical about the touchscreen functionality of the TouchScreen...until we used it. The HP TouchSmart employs a specially designed touchscreen app which runs on top of the Windows Vista operating system which comes as standard. Using this software allows you to access many aspects of your PC from your photos, movies and music to scrolling windows while surfing the net and much more. The TouchSmart touchscreen software also gives you the ability to easily do some photo manipulation like cropping, resizing and more. We enjoy the touchscreen, and found it extremely easy to use, with fluid motion and excellent graphics. Unlike some older attempts at touchscreen PC's, the TouchSmart screen is very sensitive meaning that you can move and select things on the screen with a feather touch. We thought of the TocuhSmart as the 'iPhone' of the PC world; lovely design and build quality, mixed with excellent usability and functionality. Although, the TouchSmart did leave us wanting more...we eagily await more upgrades and additions to let you do even more with this PC! If you go for the top of the range of the IQ500 series TouchSmart, or the IQ800, you will get a Blu-Ray player as standard, with built in cd burner. The monitor handles the Blu-Ray movies perfectly, with very nice clarity of image. The TouchSmart has plenty of USB ports as well as a FIrewire port, TV aerial in, as well as other ports (check out the spec page sof this site to see exactly what comes built into the TouchSmart). We mentioned that this would go well in a living room, well, if you've got a desk in any room, the TouchSmart would look great mounted on the wall, and with the TV-in socket it, even further, blurs the line between PC and usable television (especially with the remote control that comes with the TouchSmart). Summary: We found the TouchSmart to be a lovely looking, well-built PC, even as a standard PC. You'll pay a little more for the TouchSmart than you would for a standard desktop PC, but you get a lot more, in our opinion. From the wall mountable, all-in-on PC/monitor, and wireless keyboard and mouse, to the extremely usable touchscreen technology. The TouchSmart is a great multi-media, home PC, and serves this purpose extremely well. It isn't the most powerful PC equivalent, but it handled our tests well. We loved the TouchSmart for what it is, and just wanted to use it more and more!!
