The Edge 305 with heart rate lets you see whether you are training too hard or not enough. The heart rate monitor uses a robust wireless technology that eliminates cross-talk and interference and sends heart rate data to the Edge via a soft, comfortable chest strap. This data is stored with each track point for post-workout analysis.

With its waterproof, sleek design, the Edge is the perfect companion on any bike, and attaches to either the stem or handlebars. Its rugged case frames an easy-to-read, large, backlit display that can show up to eight different data fields along with altitude and a map view.

Included Training Center software gives you the ability to overlay your ride data onto a course map. It offers interactive analysis tools that measure your speed, distance, climb, and descent against varying terrain, elevation and more. Create and schedule custom workouts or use workout templates and download to the Edge.

Tiny, easy to use, and made by one of the best GPS companies around -- Garmin -- the 305CAD does what it promises and does it extremely well. And what does it do? Measures. It measures speed, distance, time, calories burned, altitude, climb, descent, and even the speed at which you fly off a mountain and smash into the ground.

The 305CAD has a built-in barometric altimeter, which measures elevation, and a speed/cadence monitor that -- that's right -- monitors your speed and cadence. But wait – and this is the cool part -- how exactly does it measure the speed and cadence? By strapping on to your bikes rear chain-stay, while a magnet straps to the rear wheel -- that gives you speed -- while a cadence magnet is attached to the crank arm -- and gives you pace data.

As this is made by Garmin, it even includes a GPS system for basic navigation and a virtual partner that follows your set goals while you race to defeat him.

Want more? There's more. PC-based Training Center software allows you to create workouts, manage and download courses, and even create post-ride analysis charts. An auto-pause feature pauses the training time once you go below a specified speed (say at a crosswalk) and automatically resumes when you speed up. Finally, it's easy to use. Just turn it on, put it wherever you want to put it, select from eight different data fields -- and you're ready to go.

The 305CAD is waterproof, it mounts on bikes, it's light, it's tiny, and if you're an athlete, it'll probably be one of the best investments you ever make. We personally have no use for it (there's only so much we need to measure -- and we already know our typing speed), but if you like the sun, you might just like this little gadget too.
